There was a lot of money changing hands this week in tech and retail. Also, check out some of Y-Combinator’s Summer 2014 batch of graduates.

In Tech:

  1. Notable funding rounds: Thumbtack, the services marketplace, raises $100M in Series D funding led by Google Capital; Wearable Intelligence raises $8M to bring Google Glass to healthcare industry
  2. Apple shares hit $100 mark ahead of iPhone 6 and iWatch launches
  3. Former CEO Steve Ballmer leaves Microsoft board, citing new responsibilities including ownership of LA Clippers basketball team
  4. Rocket Internet, best known for cloning successful e-commerce sites, continue to consolidate ahead of IPO launch
  5. Glassdoor releases report of top tech companies for culture and values

In Retail:

  1. Burberry‘s new CEO, Christopher Bailey, sells £5.2M worth of Burberry stock
  2. Bain Capital buys half of buy-one, give-one canvas shoemaker, Toms for $625M
  3. Gap to open stores in India, raises full-year profit forecast
  4. Amazon just signed partnerships with Shanghai Free Trade Zone (FTZ) and Shanghai Information Investment Limited (SII) to better compete in China e-commerce market
  5. Hong Kong based Li & Fung, Ltd., supplier to retailers such as Walmart and Target, reports first half profit accounting gain of 16%, weakening sales
