In tech:

  1. Apple reportedly orders 68M units of the iPhone 6 for its fall launch; while video on iPhone 6’s flexible sapphire screen goes viral 
  2. TSA will require all mobile devices on inbound flights into the US to have enough charge to power up; UK follows suit
  3. Elon Musk stays true to promise in a tweet, will donate $1M to The Oatmeal for the Nikola Tesla museum
  4. Google selected 5 non-profits to try Glass plus $25,000 grant for each organization
  5. Taskrabbit, the marketplace for errands/tasks, has a new platform – fixed hourly rates model instead of negotiation-based; new iOS and Android apps

In Retail:

  1. Amazon asks for exemption from FAA drone restrictions to test drones in its research facilities in Washington state; also launches Zocalo to compete against Dropbox and Box
  2. Fast Retailing group, owner of Uniqlo, issues profit warning as denim label J Brand sales falter
  3. Burberry posts first quarter revenue boosted by China sales; while facing protests from investors over a £20M pay deal for new CEO Christopher Bailey
  4. Marketing analytics services RetailNext that tracks customer location/behavior in-store, announces $30M in new VC funding
  5. Gap falls as June same-store sales at Gap and Banana Republic drop unexpectedly by 7%
